The Truth about Varicose and Spider Veins

Spider veins on a legVaricose veins and spider veins have long been associated with crossing your leg and wearing high heels. Luckily, these are just old wives’ tale as further studies about the condition reveal that varicose and spider veins are caused by improper blood flow.

There are different ways to treat varicose and spider veins. Remescar is a leading spider vein treatment provider, while various medical procedures are used to treat varicose veins.

What is the difference between varicose veins and spider veins?

Varicose veins are blue and green bulging veins found in the leg caused by blood clotting. These blood vessels twist and turn and can bulge through the skin. Apart from being unsightly, varicose veins can cause serious health problems if not treated and checked properly.

Spider veins, on the other hand, are also caused by blood backing up. But unlike varicose veins, spider veins come in small sizes and are usually not as huge as varicose. They can be found in different parts of the body.

What causes these conditions?

Varicose veins are caused by weak or damaged valves in the veins. This is due to the veins pumping blood back to the heart against the flow of gravity. It is a one-way flap, and if it becomes weak, it can cause blood to flow back to the veins and get collected there. The backup blood causes the veins to become bigger resulting to varicose veins. Varicose veins are usually hereditary, can be due to being overweight (obesity), the nature of one’s occupation, hormonal imbalance, among others.

Spider veins are also a manifestation of improper blood circulation. But unlike varicose veins, they are less harmful. These veins can be caused by injuries, exposure to the sun, and hormonal changes.

Both varicose veins and spider veins might not pose an immediate threat to one’s health, but this does not mean it is alright to have them. Consult with your doctor and see how the conditions can be prevented and to seek proper treatment to prevent it from worsening.
